TACTRI obtains ISO 17034 accreditation

To make the laboratories that perform pesticide residue inspections issue more reliable and traceable inspection reports in International System of Units (SI), after 4 years of continuously testing, TACTRI has established not only data regarding stability and reliability but also management procedures of the preparation process. TACTRI awarded ISO 17034 (Reference Material Producer，RMP) accredited by the Taiwan Accreditation Foundation (TAF), became the first certified laboratory to provide pesticide reference materials (Pesticide RMs) in Taiwan on November 15th, 2019.

TACTRI is in charge of the establishment of pesticide residue inspection technology and further established the pesticide residue regional inspection center. For many years, it has provided domestic public and private pesticide residue inspection laboratories with pesticide standard preparation service, which is also an important part of ensuring food safety. In response to the new international version of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 testing laboratory certification specifications, which have more stringent requirements for measurement uncertainty evaluation and measurement traceability, TACTRI has continuously improved its skills and finally passed ISO 17034 Certification.

According to TACTRI, pesticide reference materials are essential elements for pesticide residue testing. When performing instrumental analysis, the qualitative and quantitative accuracy must rely on high-quality, traceable pesticide reference materials. In addition, all domestic ISO 17025 certified pesticide residue testing laboratories must use pesticide reference materials produced by certified reference materials producer in accordance with the requirements of the regulations. TACTRI started reference material producer accreditation application from 2015, from information collection, space planning, document compilation to implementation of evaluation tests and data analysis, not only meets ISO requirements in terms of preparation technology and process management, but also meets international standards.

The certified laboratory of TACTRI operates the items listed in the "Method of Test for Pesticide Residues in Foods- Multiresidue Analysis (5)" announced by the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration on May 10th, 2019. The future goals are to bring new pesticide items into the list according to proclamation by competent authority and evaluate the extension of the shelf life of pesticide reference materials, hoping to provide testing laboratories with convenient and stable quality pesticide reference materials.
